Panel Plan have just completed this rather handsome looking project in Tamworth, Staffordshire.

Set over two floors, the project consists of 28 lockers, 26 metres worth of Tallwall units and space for flat screens to be installed. However what really makes this job stand out so much is the beautiful Egger Halifax Oak finish, which is perfectly complemented by the subtle hues of the walls and floors.

In the Shadows

The term ‘shadow gap’ may not mean anything to you, but it’s something that we at Panel Plan are keen to create.

Normally if the standard carcass of a unit (whether on a locker or storage wall unit) is grey or white, then the gaps in between the panels appear to have uneven shadows and can often look dusty in places.

This effect is particularly noticeable on woodgrain effects such as maple or oak, where the light carcass colour is highlighted by the colour and pattern of the wood.

If however an anthracite carcass is used then this creates what we call a ‘shadow gap’, the gaps in between the panels look consistent with an even density of shadow across the entire unit - simple!

Precision at work…

At Panel Plan we’ve been creating our ‘teacher wall’ for a number of years but this particular project, created for a special school in the three counties region, presented us with a somewhat unique challenge.

As you can see from the image above, running the length of the ceiling is a hoist mechanism which enables children with certain disabilities to interact with the wall.

Our expert fit-out team had to carefully position our panels in place so that the hoist mechanism can run smoothly and unhindered, enabling perfect access to the wall itself. As you can imagine, the tolerances where extremely fine, one slightly mis-placed panel and the hoist wouldn’t work.

Thankfully the whole process from design, manufacture and fitting went perfectly and everyone at the school now has full access to the learning tools at hand.

Breaking out in style

Working in conjunction with Hunts Office, Panel Plan has just completed the latest installation of their new Kubo system in Lincoln Fields, Central London.

Kubo is a simple frame system of interlocking, lightweight metal tubes onto which a raft of options can be applied; open boxes, closed boxes, lockers, or planters to name just a few.

Mission Impossible?

It’s not everyday we receive a phone call asking if we can design, manufacture and install one thousand lockers in a month and with Christmas thrown in for good measure!

Sounds impossible? Well that’s exactly the challenge which interior specialists Scribe set for us. They were looking for a supplier who could achieve this extraordinary feat - that’s when Panel Plan received the call…

In total 1,040 combination lockers, in grey and anthracite, were installed in the new FTI offices in central London all by the middle of January, almost exactly one month after receiving the order.

“If it hadn’t been for our incredible and dedicated in-house team, there’s no way we could have achieved such a remarkable turnaround” commented Bob Cole, Panel Plan’s sales director.

“Thankfully we have the skill, experience and commitment at Panel Plan to take on such a Herculean task - but doing it over the Christmas period was special, even for us!”.

Schools out!

There may not be any pupils actually in schools at the moment (other than those of key workers) but that doesn’t mean that schools aren’t planning ahead for the big re-opening.

Rotherfield School have been busy refitting a new classroom with a range of Panel Plan products including drawers, cupboards, pigeon holes and a built-in video screen.

Subtle tones add a dash of colour

Here’s a delightfully subtle range of Panel Plan products recently installed at the offices of Lumentum in Northamptonshire. Working in partnership with office furniture and workspace specialists Hunts Office, we designed, manufactured, and installed nearly 19 metres of Tallwall storage, 235 standard key lockers, and various sections of the soft fabric cladding, all of which feature in the photographs shown here.
